Since I usually only work by referral, I’ll assume that whatever brought you here, it means there must be some sort of common affinity – which is a nicer way of saying “stuff happens for a reason.”
It means I either know you, you were referred to me, or you got here by some strange coincidence.
If you don’t already know me, then let me warn you now that my Style is not for everyone. I’m not your average agent and I only have room to take on a few clients at a time.

But First, the name of this page: Elementi means Primordial in Latin, Style is a way of approaching things. I can be direct, and I’ve been known to use some colorful language. You’ve been warned.

The Problem with Real Estate "News"
You may have already guessed that most of the so-called “real estate news” you hear everyday is irrelevant.
Its not necessarily “fake” but it’s not the type of intelligence you need to make major financial decisions.
You probably know that buying or selling a house is one of the largest financial decisions most people will ever make. It’s one of the most stressful, right up there with Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce, and Job Change. It’s not news these things often happen at the same time.
Yet most people approach this decision like clueless zombies. Maybe it’s the smartphones, but I suspect its simply the fact that schools, the education curriculum, and society didn’t provide the right kinds of education and training. In other words, its not your fault.
Think about it. What did you learn in school? Math, Science, Reading, Social Studies, etc. These are great subjects, but where was the class on “what to expect when you get married and divorced,” “how to raise a child,” or “how and why to buy and sell a house?”
Many people face the same challenges – years ago I realized I didn’t know jack about real estate.
What I Learned the Hard Way
Let me take a moment to reintroduce myself. My name is Shawn Cartwright and many people know me for my Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Meditation teachings.
I've trained those arts for more than 35 years. The discipline and insight from them serve me well – more on that later.
My interest in real property started when I was young. In middle school, I started mowing lawns. In high school I got into martial arts and I got a job as a laborer for a contractor rehabbing houses.
When I got to college, although my major was engineering, I spent my free time practicing Kung Fu and studying real estate. I even wanted to go into real estate after I graduated, but everyone told me “that’s what your grandma does when she retires” and “go get an engineering job.” Back then I worried too much about what other people thought.
So, I went to work for GE, then went back to school and got an MBA, and then a job as a Management Consultant. I did a lot of international business and developed strategies for industries ranging from automotive to consumer products. After I got tired of living in a hotel and making other people loads of money, I asked myself what do I really wanted to do?
Since leaving my high-paying corporate job to start my own business as an entrepreneur, I’ve made many mistakes and I’ve made big wins.
The Power of Mistakes
Mistakes and Success go together like a Yin and Yang pair. A mistake isn’t a mistake if you learn from it. It just brings you one step closer to success.
Throughout those years, two things were constants: my interest in real estate and Kung Fu.
I’ve bought and sold houses. I’ve renovated them, I’ve been a landlord – and a tenant. I’ve leased office space and helped others do the same.
What I've Learned
What I’ve learned in the process is that its not enough to know the big picture. It is also a mistake to go the opposite extreme and plough so deep into the weeds – they call it “Hyper Local” – that you lose perspective of the huge forest around you.
The key is understanding the local environment but maintaining a big picture view.

I am affiliated with Long & Foster and Christies International. We are the top brokerage on the East Coast. We’re owned by Warren Buffet’s company. My office is the top office in Long & Foster.
We’re a full-service office and I provide a high level of specialized service with a unique Style to help my clients achieve a successful purchase or sale.
However, my Style may not be right for everyone
Specifically, if you aren’t willing to listen to difficult advice, then you and I will not be a good fit. There are other agents out there who will tell you what you want to hear just to get your business. That's not me.
Also, if you want a kickback, I’m not your agent. Did you know that state law makes it illegal to pay part of a commission to someone who does not have a real estate license?
If you’re still thinking a kickback would be nice, regardless of the legal implications, then ask yourself this question: “If my agent is not confident enough in their own VALUE to negotiate their commission, then does it really make sense to entrust them with my largest asset? Will they do a better job for me than they did for themselves?”
